Russian-Ukrainian conflict escalates again: French President Macron says Putin has no interest in peace

Release time:2024-11-18

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to intensify, and Russia's recent fierce attack on Ukrainian energy facilities has once again attracted strong attention from the international community. At a press conference before attending the G20 summit, French President Emmanuel Macron directly accused Russian President Putin of having no intention of peace and no intention of negotiating. This remark not only reveals the current tension between Russia and Ukraine, but also shows the consistent position of Western countries on their policies toward Russia.

Energy network attack: the latest escalation of the war

Recently, Russia launched one of the most violent attacks on Ukraine's energy network since the conflict. According to reports, the attack killed at least 10 people and injured 20 people, while causing serious damage to Ukraine's fragile energy infrastructure. The Ukrainian government was forced to announce nationwide power restrictions, which was a huge blow to the Ukrainian people who are experiencing a cold winter.

French President Macron expressed strong condemnation of the incident. He pointed out that Russia's actions were clearly intended to further intensify the fighting and push the situation in a more dangerous direction. He said bluntly at the press conference: "No matter what Putin says, his actual actions show that he neither wants peace nor has the intention to negotiate."

France's position: Firm support for Ukraine

In the face of Russia's continued offensive, Macron reiterated France's firm support for Ukraine. He said that Western allies must provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons and equipment to help it resist aggression. He stressed that aiding Ukraine is not only a commitment to the country, but also a necessary move to maintain international order.

Macron further pointed out that the international community must be committed to promoting a "peace that is not premised on Ukraine's surrender." This is a goal that France and its allies need to work hard to achieve in the coming weeks. His statement reflects the long-term strategy of Western countries on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, that is, while supporting Ukraine's resistance, not giving up the possibility of achieving sustainable peace through negotiations.

The response of the international community: unanimous condemnation of Russia

In addition to France, the Brussels-based European Union also responded quickly to the Russian attack. European Commission President von der Leyen said the EU will continue to fully support Ukraine to fight against Russia's aggression. She called the attack on energy facilities a "terrible atrocity" and reiterated that Ukraine can rely on the support of the European Union.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made it clear on his way to the G20 summit that he had "no intention of talking to Putin" and called on the international community to increase its assistance to Ukraine. UN Secretary-General Guterres condemned Russia's actions as "unacceptable attacks" and called for an immediate end to attacks on civilian targets.
