Iran-Israel confrontation escalates: Khamenei calls for calm, Netanyahu claims the attack achieved its goal

Release time:2024-11-04

On October 27, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spoke publicly for the first time about Israel's recent air strikes on Iran, stressing that Israel's attacks should neither be exaggerated nor ignored. This statement shows Iran's cautious attitude towards the current situation, while at the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Israeli army's actions, claiming that the strike had severely damaged Iran's defense capabilities.

Khamenei calls for rational response to the attack

Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei's statement was posted on the social media platform X. He described the Israeli attack as a "misjudgment" but did not explain in detail. He called on Iran and the international community not to over-exaggerate or underestimate the significance of the attack. Although his remarks indicated that Iran did not intend to take immediate retaliatory actions, he did not completely rule out a possible response and stressed the importance of carefully assessing the situation.

In contrast to Khamenei's calm statement, Iran strongly condemned the Israeli attack. Tehran officials said that Israel's air strikes not only violated international law, but also seriously violated Iran's sovereignty. However, Iran also stressed that its air defense system effectively responded to the Israeli attack, claiming that the actual losses were limited.

It is reported that the Israeli air strike damaged multiple Iranian radar systems and killed at least four Iranian soldiers. Despite this, the Iranian government did not issue a direct threat of retaliation against Israel, reflecting its restraint in the current complex situation.

Netanyahu claimed that the attack was successful and achieved strategic goals

Compared to Khamenei's low-key, Netanyahu publicly stated in the media that Israel's attack on Iran has achieved a major victory, saying that the operation destroyed Iran's key missile production facilities and air defense systems. He stressed that the Israeli army's strikes have greatly weakened Iran's missile strike capabilities against Israel and laid a solid foundation for Israel's security.

Netanyahu also pointed out that the Israeli Air Force's operation covered multiple Iranian military targets, including air defense missile facilities, missile production bases and military command centers. Israeli media said that the attack was a response to Iran's launch of a large-scale ballistic missile at Israel on October 1. At that time, Iran's missile attack was in retaliation for the deaths of Hassan Nasrallah, a senior leader of its ally Hezbollah in Lebanon, and a deputy commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in an Israeli airstrike.

Although Israel believed that the attack had achieved its strategic goals, Iran did not immediately take military action to retaliate. The restraint of both sides has to some extent avoided further deterioration of the situation.

International calls for restraint to avoid escalation of conflicts

Against the backdrop of intensified confrontations between Iran and Israel, the international community quickly called on both sides to remain calm. The United States, Britain, the European Union and many countries in the Middle East have expressed concern about the military actions of both sides and urged to avoid escalating the conflict to a more dangerous level. Especially in the current highly tense situation in the Middle East, the international community does not want to see the conflict between Iran and Israel escalate further and cause the regional situation to get out of control.

The Associated Press reported that although the two sides have temporarily stopped direct military confrontation, Israel's warnings are still severe. The Israeli army made it clear that Iran must not take further military retaliation, otherwise it will face a tougher response from Israel.

Israel's Gaza operation continues, and the situation is not optimistic

Although Israel's air strikes on Iran have come to an end, the battle between the Israeli army and the Iranian-backed Hamas armed forces in the Gaza Strip is still ongoing. The conflict in northern Gaza has entered its third week, causing a large number of civilian casualties. Palestinian officials said that the air strike on October 27 killed at least 22 people, most of whom were women and children. The Israeli military stressed that their goal is to fight Hamas militants and minimize harm to civilians.

At present, the fighting in the Gaza Strip is still ongoing, and rescue organizations have warned that the region has fallen into a humanitarian crisis, with a serious shortage of basic living supplies such as food and medicine, and residents facing extreme difficulties.

The terrorist attack in Tel Aviv has attracted attention

In addition to the military operations in Gaza, a major security incident occurred in Israel on October 27. A large truck crashed into a bus station in the Glilot area in northern Tel Aviv, injuring 35 people and killing the driver on the spot. Although the specific motive of the incident is still unclear, local police classified it as a "terrorist attack" and launched a full investigation.

It is worth noting that the car crash occurred in an area not far from the headquarters of Israel's intelligence agency Mossad. Similar car crashes by Palestinians have occurred from time to time in the past few years, bringing more uncertainty to the local security situation.

Future Outlook

The conflict between Iran and Israel continues to escalate, but the current attitudes of both sides appear relatively restrained. Khamenei's statement shows that Iran is evaluating further actions, while Netanyahu has strengthened domestic support by showing Israel's military victory. Although the current situation has not deteriorated further for the time being, the future direction of the situation is still full of uncertainty.

The appeal and pressure from the international community may be able to curb the military conflict between the two sides in the short term, but in the long run, the tension in the Middle East will still be difficult to ease. The deep-seated contradictions between Iran and Israel in politics, religion and strategy make it difficult for the two sides to truly ease their relations, and this conflict may only be the prelude to a larger-scale conflict between the two sides.

For the Middle East and even the global situation, the conflict between Iran and Israel is not only related to the security of the two countries, but may also affect the peace and stability of the entire region. With the close attention of the international community, the next few months will be a critical period to determine the direction of this complex situation.
